Pillow Pets Dream Lites — A Marketing Review
It’s no secret that many children are afraid of the dark.
From bogeymen in the closet to monsters under the bed to those strange sounds from other rooms in the house, bed time can be a scary and unfortunately frightful time for children. And adults. And the fish in my aquarium. At least kids can hide under sheets and blankets if they get scared. What are my fish going to do? Hide behind some fake scenery? That’s not nearly as comforting as a protective blanket.
So what can you do to help comfort a child’s fear of the dark?

“Take one step out of bed and your feet are MINE! Ha, ha, ha!“
Nightlights are always a popular option.
So is a television or even a jar full of fireflies. (NOTE — Fireflies need to be replenished each night or the effect stops working.) With a little creativity and that parenting stuff, there are a variety of options that will help a child sleep better in a darkened room.
Those other options don’t really concern you, right? You’re here because I’m going to discuss yet another cheesy commercial that I saw recently on TV. And it’s fun. Well, at least fun for me. You’re under no obligation whatsoever to laugh or even crack a smile.
Pillow Pets Dream Lites website — www.DreamLites.com
Getting back on topic, the other day I saw a TV commercial for something called a “Dream Lite” from the makers of the Pillow Pets. The company claims that the Pillow Pets Dream Lite “helps alleviate fear of the dark.” Check out the TV commercial on the company’s website and see for yourself if this sounds like a legitimate solution or not.
To me, it seems like the Dream Lite is more of a simple toy rather than useful child sleeping aid. Let’s take a closer look at the commercial and see some examples.
The Pillow Pets Dream Lites commercial begins with not a problem but rather a solution. A child begins singing in the background as mom turns out the light and junior pulls out his Dream Lite toy. Instead of lying down and going to sleep, the child is instead transported to a magical world as stars and shapes are illuminated upon his bedroom ceiling, amusing and keeping the child awake for that much longer.

Dream Lites TV commercial — Ooooh! Stars!
It’s interesting to note how much light is already in the child’s bedroom. It’s almost like daytime in there. No wonder the kid isn’t scared!

Dream Lites TV commercial — Presenting the Pillow Pets Dream Lites!
One of the odd things with this product is that the official name isn’t exactly clear. Depending where you look on the website or see in the commercial, this toy may be called “Pillow Pets Dream Lites,” “Dream Lites,” “DreamLites” (uppercase L, pictured at the end), or even “Dreamlites” (lowercase L, pictured above). Speaking of spell checking, the marketing team may want to take a second look at the website’s title and correct the spelling error: “The Offical TV Site of Dream Lites!”

Dream Lites TV commercial — “Sleep well, child, as I, the Fluttery Butterfly, will watch over you each night.”
Once again we see a child in a not-so-dark bedroom. Either these Dream Lites give off a hell of a lot of light, or perhaps actual sleeping conditions have been slightly exaggerated for this TV commercial. Maybe we’re not seeing the product in realistic conditions.

Dream Lites TV commercial — “Mommy! If the Dream Lite is in front of me, and the stars are behind me, where’s my shadow?”
Yes, folks, some of the scenes in the commercial might be rather dishonest as evident here in this scene. Perhaps everything isn’t so childlike and innocent as portrayed in the TV commercial. Take note that despite having two of the ladybug Dream Lites in her bedroom, the Ms. Ladybug Dream Lite starry light pattern on the girl’s wall is incorrect from this forced perspective. The girl may be looking at the real light display on the ceiling, but we’re seeing something else in this scene.

Dream Lites TV commercial — “If you guys don’t get to sleep, I’ll Dutch oven both of you!“
Okay, maybe the stereotypical mom didn’t really say that in the TV commercial, but I think that my version is better. Anybody? Anybody? Maybe this wasn’t the best example. Everybody, forget about this and just move on to the next scene. Now! Move it!

Dream Lites TV commercial — Perhaps the best example of the Dream Lites nightlights.
Here we have two boys in their sleeping bags and makeshift tent. That looks kinda cool, right? Between them is the Jolly Giraffe Dream Lite casting an array of stars and other shapes on their sheet. To me, this looks like the best way to use the Dream Lite toy, not as a nightlight, but rather a night entertainment device. Throw in some music, add a disco ball and there you go! Party time! Woohoo!

Dream Lites TV commercial — Boldly opening the bedroom door, Junior investigates the funny sounds emerging from mommy and daddy’s room.
Here we have the stereotypical scene of a child going to his parents’ bedroom because he’s scared of the dark. Not from the monsters of unspeakable horror waiting in the closet or under the bed, but being scared of the darkness itself. And what will make Junior happy again? Will just any ordinary nightlight calm the child? Of course not! The correct answer is . . .

Dream Lites TV commercial — Behold! The starry ceiling, errr, WALL compliments of the Dream Lite!
The answer, of course, is the DREAM LITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!! AMAZING!!! HOLY COW!!!
Take note that Junior is staring at a ceiling instead of looking at the starry wall behind him. What an idiot! That must be dad’s kid, right? Mom certainly wouldn’t produce a child that stupid. Oh, wait a second. Perhaps this scene isn’t entirely accurate as to the position of the Snuggly Puppy Dream Lite on the kid’s bed. Maybe he really is looking at a star display on the ceiling and we’re seeing a not-so-creative wall display specific for this TV commercial.

Dream Lites TV commercial — Oooh! Pretty!
Once again we see that children love to see stars magically appear on their ceiling. Oh, if only there was a way to enhance this effect. What’s that? Putting glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling and recreating constellations, teaching them some science and astronomy along the way? Nah. I’ll stick with the easy way out. I wouldn’t want the kid to learn anything anyway. I will say that having a giant ladybug face staring down and smiling is slightly disturbing.

Dream Lites TV commercial — Sales pitch.
At the end of the TV commercial, after seeing all of those happy scenes and hearing that lame song over and over and over again, we’re hit with the sales pitch. An individual Dream Lite stuffed animal nightlight costs $37.90 when you add in the shipping & handling fees. Adding a second Dream Lite to the purchase orders saves a few bucks on the cost of the second Dream Lite as well as the S&H fees.
FINAL THOUGHTS
It’s rather interesting that the Dream Lites is being presented as a fun way for children to fall asleep at night. From the song being played in the background of the commercial to the starry, nighttime background of the website, you get the impression that this is a tool similar to a nightlight.
But in almost every example, we see that children are wide awake, sitting up, and looking up at their ceiling. They’re NOT lying in bed, under the covers, and looking up while getting sleepy. The commercial is indirectly selling this product almost as a night toy instead of a tool to conquer a fear of the dark.
It’s also interesting that we don’t see the Dream Lite being used in what I refer to as “realistic” conditions —- notably a dark bedroom. All of the bedroom scenes were quite bright and certainly nowhere nearly as frightening as what an ordinary bedroom can become in realistic nighttime conditions, especially when the monsters start opening closet doors and crawling out from underneath the bed. Those glowing red eyes, razor sharp fangs and faint snarling sounds are scary enough to pass through the protective blanket shield and scare the willies out of any child. Ah, but in those conditions, would a child be brave enough to open the protective shield, reach out to the Dream Lite, and bravely turn it on, bashing the evil back to its point of origin? I don’t know. Dark rooms normally stay scary until morning.
Would it have been too hard to actually show a dark bedroom with the Dream Lite producing bright stars on the ceiling, or would that deter too many potential sales? Perhaps the starry night sky from the Dream Lite looks better in a dimly lit room versus a completely dark one.
Finally, what is the Dream Lite? Is it a nightlight? Is it a night toy? It seems rather conflicting to be both when one helps a child fall asleep while the other helps the child stay awake.

As far as I’m concerned, there’s only one nightlight strong enough to fight off darkness and all evils associated with it. But that’s just me.
Your allegiances may lie elsewhere.

I Recommend NOT buying ‘Dream Lites’ This is why.
I bought 2 dream lite pets off the website after seeing the commercial. Three days later the dream lite pets still haven’t been delivered but noticed I have an unrecognized phone number calling me, this number called me approx. 30 times in 8 days, meanwhile my Dream Lite pets still haven’t arrived, after getting sick of the unrecognized phone number calling me 10 times a day I decided to call and find out who it was, well it was Dream Lites, and basically telling me my order should be sent out shortly (it wasnt even shipped yet) THEN they proceeded to force me over phone telling me I was signed up for some kind of rewards program that is un-related to the product Dream Lites which I ordered, that will bill me 29+ dollars every month after 30 days of recieving my Dream Lites and the contents contained within (the rewards coupons offer) but that can be cancelled after calling the number in the program contained in the package, they had me give my credit card number over the phone twice, made me repeat the last 4 digits of my credit card 4 times, as a way of recording my voice as some part of a verbal contract. This phone call lasted 30 minutes, while I was at work, and My package would not have been mailed untill this was done. I Strongly Recommend NOT buying Dream Lites!
I think that it is wonderful that people want to help kids with there fear of the dark even if i am 8 years old it is still a wonderful idea
There is a similar thing which is sold in Barns & Noble bookstores. It’s a turtle or ladybug light. We have the turtle one. I use rechargeable batteries in it which last for maybe 2 months per charge.
It’s really good, has 3 choices of light (green and/or blue) and turns off after some time: maybe 30 minutes. We have to take it with us when we travel. The little guy really likes it. It puts out less light than appears in the DL commercial but enough for the little guy to have his star pattern. Since it’s in a store you can see it before you buy it.
It’s around $30 or $40 but is really nice.
I ordered the dreamlite over a week ago and it still hasn’t arrived. I ordered it because my daughter loves the commercial yelling “stars” and its her second birthday. I thought it would be a fun before before bedtime so i can spend time with her. The light in the commercial i believe to be fake moon light considering it blue, or the moon shining through blue curtains. Its still not here yet. Maybe it won’t be bad.
I still have not received my pets. And have not even had an e-mail.i would love them foe Easter.
If anyone has a number i could call can u e-mail it to me please,pretzeltk50@aol.com
I like the way you broke that down. My son wants one but I’m not convinced on how great it is. I see the point of it being something to play with instead of going to sleep.
They have horrible service, after waiting 3 and a half weeks I finally found a phone number to call them, they said, its been back ordered, will ship in 2-3 more weeks!!!! Then I asked, can I cancel the order, they said no, so then I said, I would like a discount, she said I will credit you $5, so today, I look at my back account and they debted the FULL amount, and still haven’t gotten my order.
I have been waiting over 2 months for my order… Told me it was on back order as well… Where did you find the number for them? It’s not posted on their website!
I placed an order on 23 of March and have received NOTHING. The website has absolutely no contact information. If my credit card has been charged, I will work on having the charge removed. I RECOMMEND AGAINST ANYONE ELSE ORDERING.
Please post a number where we can contact this company.
I ordered a dream lite on march 12 & have not received anything from them in 3 weeks. On the 4th call to their customer service line they told me my order was on back order & that’s why I was not charged yet. I was upset for never being told the first time. she offered to give me shipping free & i would recieve it in about 3 days. I agreed.
30 minutes after talking to them I recieved an email from them letting me know my order was on back order. Why did I not get this email a long time ago?
My card was charged on the 30th & For the full amount including shipping & i still have not recieved my item
HORRIBLE CUSTOMER service.
855-876-1816
I got the number from their FAQ site.
I had ordered from them and saw nothing on my card and didn’t get an e-mail confirmation from them. I found the number online, and they said they were backordered. If you haven’t heard from them, try calling. They were really helpful once we contacted them.
It took about a week for them to actually place our order and then a month after that, we got the dream lite.
The stars are a lot brighter than I expected, and my son is really happy with it!
Here is a phone number that was associated with the site. I wish I had read all the comments before I ordered….we JUST placed our order and now I’m reading all of the terrible comments. 1-800-555-6777….. I sure hope they get their act together and quit making for unhappy children and mommies!!!
I too ordered before I read the comments. I ordered on March 5th. I emailed them at dreamlites.custserv@fulfillment.com and got something back saying it was backordered. I called them at 855-876-1816 and askted them to put me at Priority Handling and I received the shipment on April 6th. They don’t tell you about Priority Handling but you can put yourself higher on the list. Afer I did that, I got my order in 2 weeks. Hope this helps.
I ordered my granddaughter one back on February 20th and still have not received it.
They have horrible customer service. I ordered mine a month ago for my sons Easter present. I called them many times asking where it was and they kept saying it would ship soon promising it to be here by Easter. After it shipped I called again to make sure it was going to be in time for Easter and they told me Fri April 6 was my delivery date. I finally was able to track it and it said april 10 I called and they said then just refuse the shipment. The customer service just lied to me over n over again. When it finally came it is much smaller than they show on tv and junky. Very disappointed and would not recommend it to anyone
I ordered the puppy dream lites on March 29th. No email or anything letting me know status etc. I wanted this for Easter present for my son. I just called b/c I saw the dang charge on my credit card. I called they sent it out yesterday however, both the tracking number & order number do not come up. I called back & asked to speak to supervisor & was told who I had on the phone was as good as I was going to get. Which as you know was probably in Pakistan. So pissed off at this company & they also signed my credit card up for some unrelated company that I had to cancel b/c they were going to charge my Credit card each month like $29.99 for what? So DANG MAD I could spit fire.
Pillow pet dream lites are great.
I wish I had one.
I ordered the dream lites pillow pet for my granddaughter and it arrived promptly and she loves it. Now I have to get another one so she can keep one at my house.
i bought one back in february around the 10. the order wasnt placed till the 15th and they charged me on the 30th of march!!!. it was a birhtday present for my little brother whose birthday was the 20th!!! his birhtday past bought him something else and finally i canceled the order. and they still charged me for it!!! i havent received anything at all. and i would not recommend purchasing this item at all. unless youre willing to wait 3 months for it.
i called them and they said they did not charge me for it. my bank account begs to differ!!! so im not gonna stop till i get my money back!! i got the charger and everything so my total was 45.85. im not gonna give them 45.85 dollars free. i earned that money i could spend it somewhere else!!
I ordered one and when it came it was defective. The screw to hold the battery plate on was in there so tightly that when you tried to remove it it stripped. Had to send back the first one and then they charged me full price for the second one again. I sent that first one back and paid to ship it back to them. The refunded me for the first one but only $30.95 so now I have paid 24.73 in shipping charges for one dream lite. They have horrible customer service and I am reporting them to the better business bureau. I am still fighting to get my shipping money back from the first one. Then after all of that the screw on the new one is no better. They are cheaply made. I learned my lesson to wait until they are available for sale in the stores.
My Grandson just started asking me for this, so I decided to do a little online research. Thank goodness I did! Considering the vast majority of reviews are about appalling customer service and the long wait to receive the product, I think I’ll be looking for something else. Thanks all!
You should all go to the media with this info. There could be so many people getting ripped off and to think I was going to order some for my son and nephews.
glad i read these comments before i placed my order…my son has seen the commerical and loves them but by all the comments he would get it by the time he didnt need it anymore…3 months is a long time waiting on something…
Thank you. I was about to order this. You all need to contact the Better Business Bureau. I had to do this for the rip off people at Liberty Tax.
I wanted one for easter so i begged and begged my mom but she said not unless you earn that money so i did lots of chores and so much hard work and i orderd one march 20th and still nothin’
This is the WORST i mean THE WORST customer service I have ever encountered. I have Talked to a supervisor named JESI and she could not even speak straight clear english she put me on hold several times and was very rude and whats worst I talked to her manager Jose and I dont know if it was a she or a he and he couldnt even have a specific date on when I will receive the product. They did not even contact me that the product was on BACK ORDER they made me feel stupid and a liar to my kids. IM mad as HELL this is for my kids and they are crying over this
I almost ordered this because my son keeps seeing the stupid commercial! I bought him a turtle one of Amazone for $30 free shipping! its the one where there is a choice of a turtle or ladybug I gave it to him when he was 1 years old no reason just have a light in the room. We kept it on the dresser & before bed he was aloud to turn it on and pick one of the 3 colors blue, green & a auburn color we never used that. He had this till he was 3 years old & started the whole monster thing & finally figuring out it did not stay on all nite. He would cry till we came in & he would keep making us turn it on 1or 2 times a nite…..I got so sick of going in there so I gave him it in bed so he would always have it on even durning nap time! Until finally it died! My point is? It was cheaper! Really nice for the price, it’s very bright & lights up ceiling & walls with constillations hidden in it for old kids even comes with a paper to show you & it lasted over 2 years probably longer if my son didn’t turn it on 24/7 & you can get it off Amazone. Com with no scams & a speedy delivery. The one thing is everything
is soft except the shell where the lights come same with ladybug. Even the dream pets have a small spot on there back that’s heard & almost all of them are ungly. I just put a couple good old fashion nite lights in his room one even can be changed to 5 different colors he picked green. Then he stated playing with it in the wall and could never get it back to green after several nites be awaken because he couldn’t put the green light back on I told him if he doesn’t leave them alone I would take both nite lights out! He stopped &never touched again & everything was great untill he sees that stupid dream lite commercial oh and the pillow per blanket &the pillow pet & the pillow pet with baby……..UGH!!!!!!!! Can they come out with anymore not so cool stuff? What ever happen to the tents that went on your bed? Now that was cool!
I tried to order this for my daughter and son for this Wednesday, May 23rd which is thier birthday. I was told 7 to 10 weeks for delivery. I asked if they could overnight it if I paid for fed ex and they told me no, best they can do is expedite the order which would still take 7 – 10 days to receive which does me no good as this would be a week after their birthday. After reading all of these comments, I have decided not to purchase anything from them and now they are out $60. Customer service was not helpful at all. Dreamlite stop advertising if you can’t produce the product!!!!!! I have 2 numbers 1-800-788-7514 which is the number they advertise on tv and then they gave me customer service 855-876-1816. What lame company doesn’t have fed-ex as a shipping option?
after reading all these comments, i’m never buying any dreamlites for anyone!!!
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR REVIEWS, NOW I KNOW NOT TO BUY THIS ITEM.
This review was so funny, I cried through it. I literally had to take a bathroom break to finish it. I will be bookmarking this site!!!
DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM. I ordered this item on May 30th and has it express shipped. I have yet to receive my order and they charged me triple for my order. They told me I could only get my money back if I refused the package. They told me I could not talk to a manager and they told me that express shipping meant it would be packaged faster but shipping would take the same amount of time. It was shipped today even though I paid extra and it won’t get here until next week. My niece’s 3rd birthday is tomorrow and its the only gift she wanted now I have to tell her she wont have her gift and hope they don’t charge me any more money. So far im out $120 and they refuse to help. I’m appalled. I wish I seen this site first
I am so glad that I chose to research these cute LIttle critters. My daughter has several pillow pets in various sizes and really wants a DreamLite now….Well I love(not)how the commercial directs you to online with absolutely no mention of cost. And if you order now with their silly discount you can save a whopping 25% which sounds nice until you realize that it doesn’t really save you much when you add the shipping on and it works out to only saving like $2.00 if you live in a state that doesn’t charge extra taxes and junk. I was really hoping that I could afford one of these cute lil things, but after reading this page and everyones comments, I am rather frightened to even order. Maybe by Christmas they will be availible in stores…just like the Pillow Pets ended up. Until then we will just have to enjoy the fun commercial.
awesome.. glad i read this a week after i ordered 2 of them and spent 90.00. my daughters 3rd birthday is in 2 days and it was supposed to be here today. so im guessing im out that money and wont see the dream lites. im beyond pissed and i cant get ahold of costermer service on the website.
I Want A
Dream Lite
I have my Credit Card sitting next to the computer getting ready to buy the dog and unicorn for my children….UNTIL…I found this website and read all your comments..I am now not going to purchase anything from dream lites…For those who have had a Bad experience with this company and who are “spitting ” mad at them I thank you for posting your comments…You have saved me my money and the emotional volcanic eruption…Your posts are helping others…thanks again
Don’t buy anything from this company. After I ordered, and the receipt added another one and a $20 processing fee, I went to the websites to check status & customer service. They don’t exist. Cancelled my credit card before it could be charged- thank goodness…. Been calling all day to cancel at Dreamlites but they aren’t taking calls- automated voice says call back in a few hrs-their site is down. What a rip off……
Ordered on 5/31 received double shipment on 6/12. Called CS and was greeted by Bernard whom was very nice and very helpful.Sorry to hear that so many have been unhappy. My Gdaughter was very pleased also!
My 2 year old daughter is like an entranced little zombie whenever this commercial comes on…but I refuse to pay the exorbitant cost. I went to Walmart and bought a round, tap light-like nightlight that projects stars and a crescent moon onto the ceiling with blue LED lights, $5.97. I bought it three months ago and haven’t had to change the two AA batteries yet. My mom keeps wanting to buy her the unicorn dreamlite but I forbade her to, after seeing this site I now know I was right.
Besides, if they’re anything like the pillow pets, they will be for sale in Walgreens, Walmart, and Target before the end of the summer at half the cost of the ones on TV.
I want to purchase one as well, my daughter is going to be 2 soon, and she has told me she wants one… But reading all these reviews I doubt she will be getting one for her birthday. But then I saw that toys r us will be selling them soon! It says if u preorder now, the estimated delivery day is july 2nd. Hope this helps, as ur comments truly helped me thanks!

Before dream lites came out i had my son and bought him a “generic” dream light. Ive seen it mentioned on her a few times being bought at about $30-40. I found mine at target for probably twenty bucks. Mo shipping no customer service issues. My son is now 18 mnths and loves it. It has three different colors you can set it on it also plays different lullabuys and environmental music. Dream lites can kiss my buy. I you want to buy one just go out and find this product. Ive seen it made my several companies in several different critters. I bought the frog which is very cute. Sometimes you just need to walk away from those cute commercials and think reasonabaly
Ordered and unable to receive confirmation as so many others in above post… Once contacted told it was on back order, like everyone above. Finally received it almost a month and a half later (was hoping to get in before Easter, oh well!)IMPORTANT INFO ~ Has anyone else experienced this? when I got it, the (very small) screw that holds the battery plate in place is completely striped and the plate and screw falls out. This could be VERY dangerous if given to a toddler or young child! So I put duct tape over the whole back to keep it all in place. Do your batteries drain quickly? Guess I just need to to find a bigger screw.. so watch out to make sure .. other then that, my daughter loves hers.
It does seem like the shipping sucks but without the rush shipping it did say 3 to 5 weeks
I went ahead and paid the 8 dollars and it’s supposed to be 5 to 10 days and I have gotten a email 3 days later saying it has been shipped
I had never heard of these until my granddaughter saw the commerical and called me asked me for one in her cute little voice..So I ordered one two weeks ago still haven’t heard a thing. Keep checking my e-mail nothing. I sure hope this isn’t a scam that is getting to grandma’s through our grandchildren. Very upset in California
lol you people are hilarious. How many of you have EVER ordered anything online and had it show up in 3-5 days? If you are dumb enough to give your credit card info to a company for an unrelated product….that is your fault.
I found the unicorn and dog at Walmart. Was
surprise they had them, so I bought one of each.
You have to go there and ask/look around. It’s not on their website. I saw afew of the unicorn and dog at the Walmart in Fremont, Ca.
